Research activities of the bbw Hochschule expanded!

The fib Research Institute of the bbw Hochschule was able to further expand its role as a coordinator of third-party funded research projects and to become a third-party funding agency of the bbw University. The current project pipeline shows that six projects with a funding volume of 1.3 million euros were successfully completed in the reporting period, five new projects with a funding volume of 4.6 million euros were approved and a further six project outlines or applications with a funding volume of 5.3 million euros were submitted. The volume of third-party funding for the bbw University of Applied Sciences has thus doubled in all three pipeline categories compared to the previous reporting period and amounts to approximately 3.9 million euros for 2018-2019. The use of the third-party funds has enabled, among other things, the further expansion of the research infrastructure at the bbw Hochshule.

The current research report shows that it was possible to implement the recommendation of the German Science and Humanities Council from 2015 to establish more research cooperations - both with research-strong universities and with commercial enterprises. The report states that in 2019, the bbw University of Applied Sciences will have cooperated with a total of 19 renowned research institutions throughout Germany and internationally. Cooperation partners were and are 20 national and international universities, from the TU Berlin to the National Research University - University of Economics (Higher School of Economics) in Moscow to the University of Toronto (Canada), as well as 24 business enterprises and associations. During the reporting period, a special focus was also placed on strengthening research in the bbw University's Master's programsme. Here, too, a continuous increase in publication activity can be seen. The bbw University's publication activity has almost doubled compared to the 2016-2017 reporting period.

The head of the fib Research Institute at bbw University, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas P. Zahn, said: "The bbw research strategy, which was reformulated in 2018 as part of the University Development Plan, sets measurable, realistic goals for the period up to 2025, backed up by concrete measures. In the age of digitization, they offer the opportunity to develop ready-to-use solutions for practical problems of the economy within the framework of research contracts and funded projects, using the methodological and expert know-how of professors and the creativity of more than 1,000 students.
