Appointment of Dr. Irina Slot as Professor of Business Management and Engineering

In July, bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences welcomed Prof. Dr. Irina Slot as a new professor of Business Management and Engineering in the Department of Industrial Engineering.

"Industrial Engineering" as an example of interdisciplinary fusion also aptly sums up her academic and practical career to date: studying thermodynamics in Moscow, professional experience as a project engineer, studying business administration in Hanover, professional experience as a sales and negotiation manager and manager of large international projects in the energy, construction, chemical and maritime logistics industries - these are just a few of the stages on the way to her current position as a professor at bbw University. Her private and professional career was characterized by a high degree of international cooperation and multicultural project teams, which also led her to Prof. Hofstede's research team at Maastricht University. Here, Irina Slot was able to scientifically substantiate her practical experience in intercultural management and apply new impulses to her work as a project manager worldwide and - from 2010 - to teaching culturally heterogeneous learning groups and international students.

In 2017, Ms. Slot decided to devote herself entirely to her - until then part-time - work as a university lecturer, earned her doctorate at the TU Berlin and initially worked as a salaried lecturer and program lead at two universities in Berlin before being appointed professor at bbw Hochschule in July 2022.

Ms. Slot comes to the university from practical experience, and as a professor will remain true to practice. Because both as a teacher and a learner, she made the experience that in the acquisition of theoretical knowledge through "tangibility" of practical examples and learning projects, a particularly high learning motivation arises. In this regard, Irina Slot likes to quote Albert Einstein, who described knowledge without experience as mere information.

In addition, Irina Slot follows the principle of student-oriented teaching: "Neither my knowledge nor my professional experience, nor even the "cool" teaching methods are the focus, but the personal learning goals of the students". Prof. Slot is looking forward to accompanying the bbw students from Germany and all over the world on their learning journey and supporting them in achieving their professional goals.
